Hello whalewatchers: Today was a great day at Isla San Benito. We enjoyed a light breeze and the marine layer burned off in the late morning–perfect day for a hike. The group had a good time and saw all the usual suspects on the island. There were less elephant seals as most of the females have left their pups to feed. But there are plenty of “weaners” still found on the beaches.
After leaving the island we found an incredible amount of auklets, murrelets and shearwaters. The highlight was a laysan albatross. We don’t see them this close to shore regularly, so it was a treat.
Looking forward to another visit in Laguna San Ignacio.
