Tour #5 Islas San Benito

Hello whalewatchers: Wildlife viewing started at daylight when we had three black footed albatrosses and a laysan albatross follow us all the way to San Benito Island.  The group had a great day on the island and saw four different pinnipeds (harbor, Guadalupe fur, and elelephant seals, and California sea lions), peregrine falcons and ospreys as well. After we got everyone aboard and left the island. we saw a blue whale and spent some time with it. The views of the whale were spot on!  We managed to parallel the whale for 15 minutes with the animal just a few feet under the surface in blue water. Then after a small bit of its tail we called it an awesome way to spend a day. So we’re off to San Ignacio lagoon to see if we can find a gray whale.

Tour #5 Islas Todos Santos and offshore

Hello whalewatchers: Today was a great day for viewing wildlife aboard Searcher. We started out with some nice looks at elephant seals, harbor seals and young sea lions at Islas Todos Santos. Shortly after leaving we saw some northbound gray whales, then a pair of humpback whales, and then some short-beaked common dolphins. We then found a black-footed and laysan albatrosses. But the cherry on top of our day was a sighting of a fin whale, very close to the boat! That was followed by two more great looks at the same whale before we continued south.

We are off to Islas San Benito for another adventure tomorrow.

After overnight in Agua Verde the group went ashore for a walk and a good snorkel seesion with great visibility and lots of fish. We went by Roca Solitaire for a look at some boobies and then offshore for more whales and dolphins.
We were lucky enough to see the same pair of male sperm whales in the same area. We stayed for one surfacing each and then continued south for some thing different. We saw a Bryde’s whale and got some great looks. Then a group of about 50 pilot whales. We continue to add to the species list on this trip. tour 4 pilot
We ended the day with margaritas and jumping smooth-tail mobulas. Then we anchored in Puerto Gato for sunset and a buffet on the back deck. What a day!

Tour 4 Isla Santa Catalina

Hello whalewatchers: The weather  is a highlight this trip with calm seas and light winds. We had a great morning aat Isla Santa Catalina with a good walk and a snorkel session along with a Crazy Coastal Cruise for those who wanted to go.
In the afternoon it was the dolphin show. A group of 25 bottlenose dolphins first entertained us. Then a large group of long-beaked common dolphin. There was between 1500 and 2000 dolphin. Another large group of 100 bottlenose performed in the wake for us.
We also had some smooth- tailed mobula leaping that everyone enjoyed. Two different areas kept us busy for a while. We can’t forget the landscape of the peninsula that is very dramatic in this area west of Bahia Agua Verde where we will anchor for the night. The finale was a great sunset that interrupted dinner. Everyone left the galley with their cameras .

Tour 4 Isla San Jose

Hello whalewatchers: A wonderful sunrise at Punta Colorado this morning! Passengers enjoyed great hike and a snorkel session in 74- degree water. Beautiful conditions with light winds and calm seas again. It is remarkable the luck we are having with the weather and the forecast looks good for the rest of the trip. We travelled up the San Jose channel and located two bull sperm whales. We had great lighting and they are staying on the surface long enough to get some photos. Today’s photo is a sperm whale on the surface.tour 4 sperm

Tour 4 Gorda Banks and Los Frailes

Hello whalewatchers: Another great day of whale watching with humpbacks and more humpbacks.
Gorda banks was the hot spot again with great conditions for most of the morning with an hour interruption of wind, lightning, thunder and rain. All  four trips we have had rain on this day, highly unusual.
Lots of humpbacks displaying all the usual behavior–breaching, flipper flapping, tail lobbing and several groups up to 7 whales. The highlight had to be the 2 curious whales that stayed with us for an hour. Wow! The water is blue, 76 degrees and calm conditions, all made for a good show. Today’s
