Searcher Baja Whale Tour #1 – February 4 – 15, 2026, Days 1 – 7
Hello Whale Watchers!
On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Searcher departed San Diego on our first 12-day Eco Trip of the year. Thursday morning, after checking in at Ensenada, we pointed down the peninsula and headed toward San Benitos. Wildlife sightings began almost immediately with gray whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, and both short- and long-beaked common dolphins. We also had our first humpback whale sighting late in the day.
Friday morning, we woke up to more humpbacks just above the Benitos Islands and went ashore early so everyone could see the sea lions, fur seals, and elephant seals. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. Saturday morning, we had arrived in Laguna San Ignacio and had a couple of amazing days in Laguna San Ignacio. A little rain didn’t bother the group or the whales. Almost everyone had the chance to touch a whale, with lots of close encounters on both days. We also spent an afternoon exploring the mangroves, which are truly a bird-watcher’s paradise. From there, we headed south toward Bahía Magdalena to look offshore for wildlife.
While traveling south Sunday night, we were treated to an incredible lightning show as we neared the tropics. Monday brought beautiful weather, along with two large pods of common dolphins and countless humpback whales. One group of five whales was especially friendly, and a pair of “breathers” in the afternoon put on quite a show. Hopefully a preview of what’s to come tomorrow. We’re now headed toward Los Cabos and will enter the Gulf of California tomorrow.
Searcher and the Crew would love for you to join us on the adventures! Our 2027 schedule is available on our website.
