Hello whalewatchers,
We had a great day offshore with plenty of whales and birds to look at! We saw 8 or 10 humpbacks, a close look at a Bryde’s whale, and a good look at a very large blue whale before lunch. Once we got to the area where the shelf drops off into deep water, we started seeing bird life: a couple of tropic birds, phalaropes, ,shearwaters, and more. An hour before sunset we came upon an area that had at least EIGHT blue whales in a square mile area. They were milling around in the same zone. We had some great looks at a pair that were close by. The lighting decreased so we left that zone and thought that was the end of our day and then a herd of short-beaked common dolphin showed up–a great way to end the day.
More tomorrow,
Capt Art
