Researchers in Laguna San Ignacio reported the following estimated numbers of gray whales during their 11 February 2022 count:
- 9 mother/calf pairs and 111 singles for a total of 134 whales
- In addition, the team surveyed just outside the lagoon and found 6 mother/calf pairs
