April 13: Offshore Bahia Magdalena

Happy birthday, Brenda!
Hello whalewatchers,

Today was a great day with lots of life to look at. Today was the "day of the dolphin" with a steady stream of long-beaked common dolphin with us most of the day. We also saw seven blue whales, two humpbacks and a mystery whale that we only saw twice. It was a small baleen whale.

The birding was good with several Sabine's gulls being the highlight, also lots of pinkfooted shearwaters, a few sooty and black-vented shearwaters, one blackfooted albatross and three masked boobies.

Our weather started out being a little choppy but as the day went on, the weather improved to calm at the end of the day. We finished the day with a great sunset and a marvelous dinner prepared by Charles: rack of lamb with roasted purple potatoes and birthday carrot cake for Brenda Francis. We were so happy she could celebrate with all of us--her new best friends!

More tomorrow,
