Synopsis from naturalist Rob N. about the acoustic research:
“Gray whales produce a variety of vocalizations while in the lagoon (none of which are echolocation sounds, since baleen whales do NOT echolocate). Unfortunately, the number of vocalizations recorded in the lagoon in a given time does not help with census surveys, since the quantity of vocalizations is more a function of social context rather than simply the number of whales.”
